I have a question. Grasmeher and Beitter's fight with French Nieuports over Lake Prespa on 5th October 1917 seems to be well attested. It is described in [1] and Grasmeher was commended for the action (see [2]), so there seems to be no doubt in German minds about this action and the date. However I can find no mention of it in French sources. The ground units in the area make no mention of it, though the pursuit and the fight must have been obvious from the ground. The only reference to any aerial activity I can find is that the Russian detachment based between Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid fired some AA shells that day.
Can anyone shred any light on this? Who was the victim? The Nieuports were likely from Escadrille 501 based at Koritza, but it is possible that Grasmeher's victory was more of an "out of control" than an actual kill... Could there be a mistake about the dates?
