Barny de Romanet victory 3 May 1917
On this date De Romanet brought down an enemy aircraft (confirmed by ground sources) near Craonne.
On this date an aircraft of FA(A) 249 fell at "Charmois" with the death of it's crew, Ltn Hermann Otte and Ltn Erich Glocklen. Was De Romanet the victor? If the "Charmois" of German sources is Ferme du Charmois then these locations are just over 10km apart. One source has De Romanet claiming a "scout" but all the others state "avion". FA(A)249 appear to fly the Albatros CVII in 1917. http://www.buddecke.de/faa249.htm best regards Keith |

Interesting. My copy of FASWC doesn't have a mention of Otte or Gloecken on 3 May 1917
 . CGAS obviously is not clear about the circumstances of the deaths, other than to link them with operational service. My thoughts about FA249 have nevertheless collapsed. The airfield at Charmois is hundreds of Kilometres from Craonne. La Ferme de Charmois is another place entirely. A circumstance I should possibly have seen  best regards Keith |
