Replica SE5a
Hello
I have been designing an SE5a ‘replica’ for the Australian Army Flying Museum. The aim is to build a full scale, static display exhibit that is as externally realistic as possible. The internal structure is designed to ensure structural integrity, be dimensionally accurate and produce realistic lumps and bumps through the fabric.
The Australian Flying Corps operated 161 examples of the SE5a with 2 and 6(T) Squadrons, AFC.
The project relies on extensive use of laser cutting (steel, aluminium and ply) and 3D printing, and will be built by the volunteers in the museum workshop at Swartz Barracks near Oakey, Queensland. The museum and workshops are currently closed due to the pandemic so the start date of the build is unknown.
I will post images of the various components of the project.
Cheers
Ian
