REPLICA SE5a?
From the Airdrome Builders List:
Quote:
I started working on a one off Se5a yesterday. This aircraft is being built for a movie project and must be complete before Christmas. I've said that if I find 4 people that would be interested in a kit that I will document the build with video and photos then produce a kit around the first of the year . So far I've had two guys who has stepped up saying that he would be interested. If I receive two more before i get to far into the build it will become a kit. If not as soon as we shoot the film this will be the end of the SE5A project. If anyone would be interested in becoming involved in the project call me at (816) 230-8585 and we can make this happen.

Folks, that is Robert Baslee of Airdrome Aeroplanes. If anyone has interest you might want to look into this ASAP, before the opportunity goes away.

Any pictures of it so far? Sounds like a big market for this kit based on the love of the plane.

Nothing... Robert tends to be pretty secretive while developing something new. I have never seen an Airdrome kit I didn't like though... and even though I'm not a big fan of the SE5a (I don't think it flys on aerodynamic principles, I think it is just so ugly it repels the earth) I'm almost tempted personally. I bet it will be a hoot to fly though.

I would think it would fly great. Huge wings and lots of dihedral.
It should also be a relatively easy build. The wings are nearly identical and constant chord, no wing sweep and a slab sided fuselage.
You can't dismiss it just because it looks like a Peterbilt.

The deposit check I left with Robert at Oshkosh was processed today. He had told me he would not cash it if he was not going forward with a kit for the SE5a.

And RAF56_Ball's link is to the Airdrome Aeroplanes website... of which he has built a Sopwith Pup and is building a Fokker Dr.I.
Robert, the business owner/designer is a great guy, very helpful. Give him a call if you are interested in this. You will never be disappointed doing business with Robert! I cannot say enough about Robert, he's one of the guys that makes this hobby/obsession an attainable dream for us "little guys" and he's every bit as enthusiastic as any of us.
