Fokker DVII Components and Instruments Part Deux

Starting over since I didnt notice that my last thread was in the People forum....

After 13 years of dreaming I have decided to start building a Fokker DVII F in Eric Just's 460/18 colors. I am probably starting this project in the worst place possible, being stationed in Hawaii, but I'm not flying much, if at all, so I need some way to occupy my aeronautical mind.

The purpose of this thread, after reading so many great threads from talented builders and machinists, is to hopefully share my build and to contribute to the information share that has led to others successes and encourage other to follow suit.

So why have I decided on the DVII? First that Airplane has a reputation of being a good flyer. I don't want to take five years building something that may try to kill me. The second reason is the published scholarship is good to great and the availability and quite frankly the price of Mr. Kieger's plans makes it very achievable. My third reason is this site and all of the great information that has been shared with other builders.

While I'm here in Hawaii I am simply building the bolt on components and collecting the necessary instruments which will be either original or able to be made to appear original. I am hoping to have all of the components completed so that when I return to the mainland (USA) I will build the fuselage and wings and complete the assembly. I am targeting 2018 as the completion date for obvious reasons.

Starting off I have started assembling the instruments. The first great deal that has fallen my way is this Bamberg Armee III Kompass. After a light cleaning, replacing the glass and servicing with alcohol I think it will be a great touch to the cockpit.

As you can see is the wire hanging out of the bottom. Last night I decided to see if I put a AAA or two on the wires if it might lite up. As you can see the light does still work.

I have also purchased a Japanese Anemometer which appears to be a direct copy of the German variant. I will see in the future if it can be made to replicate the Wilhelm Morell version.

Before starting this thread I mocked up the Ammo Box and Empty Belt box in card board and knocked out the left ammo feed chute in cheap .0025 aluminum. Below is a picture of that feed chute

As you can see I have used a stretcher to make the outer radius. Its very ugly however the concept is in my head and when my 6061T0 aluminum shows up I will begin making the ammo chutes with an added component of annealing that outer radius to be less reliant on the stretcher. Thanks for the idea Tony

Today I recieved my Bosch Anlass all the way from England. Some one has given it a fairly fresh coat of flat black paint. I think the paint will need to be removed and redone; as I understand it, it should be shiny black with white lettering. Anyone have an opinion or knowledge on this?

Im also hoping that someone out there knows and will share what the code is for Fokker Green or at least a close resembalance.

Jeff brooks still has a few compass mounts and corrector magnet assemblies that I made, available. Suggest you email him.

Will be starting on a very limited run of anemomters in the next few weeks.

When you do the anemometers can you make me an extra face? I would like to have one to put into my Japanese anemometer.

I am interested in acquiring all parts. Please PM me prices. I really need those Fokker nuts and the Auxiliary throttle is also a must.

One of the few things that has me nervous in this whole project is the control stick. It's very intricate!

I have spoken to Jeff Brooks about the compass parts. As I understand it he has left the country. I'm hoping that when he returns he will be able to locate those parts and I will be able to acquire them.

You don't by any chance have the "F" model throttle or at least an accurate drawing?

Best Regards
Rick

Need to make another run of throttles. I'm on vacation this week, will send you photo's next week, or a search thru Jeff's posts should show most everything.
