Württemberg Jasta 28 info needed

Hello everyone,

I'm amateur of WWI aviation, and this is my first post to this forum.

I'm interested in history of German air force in WWI, and now I'm studying how Jastas were developing and when German aces joined in and out to which Jasta(s).

I read some posts in this forum that all Jastas were formed as Royal Prussian Jastas, then some Jastas re-designated their names in 1917.

Royal Bavarian Jastas added "b" as an abbreviation of "Bayern" on 17th July 1917.
Royal Saxon Jastas added "s" as an abbreviation of "Sachsen" on 24th Nov. 1917.

My question is;
When did Royal Württemberg Jasta 28 re-designate its name to 'Jasta 28w'?

Any information would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Hello Golgo11,

Wilkommen to the Aerodrome!

I am not able to answer your question, but one of our Experts should be able to.

I see that you use "Jasta(s)." and remembered having a discussion with Author Darren Whiteside ""RAMPANT LION" The Life of Eduard Ritter von Schleich * The Black Knight of Germany * WWI" on his use of Jasta as plural rather than Jastas. He replied that he had discussed this with the noted Author and WWI Historian Rick Duvien and that they both concurred that Jasta was correct for both singular and plural. Of course you will still see me use Jasta and Jastas!

Best Wishes, Jay aka FOKKERJ

P.S. If I'm wrong, I challenge Darren to correct me!
