Sikorsky on the Web

some years ago (1996) i contributed to a website by Ales Savine, recently I found it still exists. It has a number of images and data relating to Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky's efforts in Russia as well as number of other early Russian designers and constructors...

Thanks for this. I know almost nothing about Sikorsky except his American work, so looking at your site is a real education!

Cheers

Bob

Sikorsky
The hard core of the site of Alex Savine is the standard history of Shavrov, pictures and text (translated from the Russian) included.

Data Sources

If I recall correctly much of the data put up at Alex's site (and others including my own long gone) was an amalgamation from V.Shavrov, P.Duz, S.Sikorsky, H.Woodman, and my own material brought out of the USSR in 1988 so lets give credit where credit is due...

Oh and that data has been used freely by others in a variety of publications in English, Russian etc... often with no citation or much less thank you very much....

As for the images none of those used for the Sikorsky section were from V. B. Shavrov's seminal ("History of aircraft construction in the USSR until 1938") work but rather from my collection and others who passed them along to me... many of the really great pictures were still in Russia some in private hands others at Monino as well as other "official" archives and museums.

In case anyone is interested there is a pdf version of this book available....
