Hi,
I'm once curious to hear what some of the modellers have to say on the plane markings from Theo Osterkamp and Gotthard Sachsenberg as we already discussed on the aircraft part of the Forum.
This is what Volker Nemsch wrote on the subject and I quote :
"As for the markings:
While it is clear that Sachsenbergs E V had his personal checkerboard marking (a photo of this aircraft actually also being in the old Nowarra book "Eisernes Kreuz und Balkenkreuz), the only "confirmation" for Osterkamps markings seems to come from a much later replica E V flown in England in the eighties. It is however possible that the aircraft was remarked - definitely probable if Osterkamp REALLY was shot down in that aircraft on September 28, 6 weeks after the delivery. However, if shot down during a familiarsation flight, September 28 seems rather late...
But it seems clear to me that Osterkamp at least flew a D VII with the markings described for the E V - Sachsenberg was very particular (we would say "penibel") when it comes to markings,as evidenced in the Marine Jagdgeschwader painting instructions, and the whole thing makes sense:
- Sachsenberg (1. Jasta) with the checkered fuselage
- Osterkamp (2. Jasta)with vertical stripes (only evidenced by his own description)
- Brockhoff (3. Jasta) with horizontal stripes (evidence of two D VII´s through Abschussmeldungen)"
Now we know that Sachsenberg's DVII and EV had a yellow/black chequered fuselage.
However on the DVII there are a number of questionmarks. What colours did the lower wing its upper side have ? What was the marking on the upper side of the upper wing in the middle part and what color did it have ?
Osterkamp's earlier planes such as the Albatros DV had two black lines running around the fuselage. It made it have some resemblance with a bee.

There exists a photo of another Albatros DIII which has such black stripes all over the fuselage. The other colour is uncertain.
Was this Uncle Theo's plane ? Did he keep only 2 lines on his Alb. DV and changed with later planes back to an old pattern ? Or do we mix up two pilots in this case ?
And concerning Brockhoff as he was menioned also in this text, anyone ever seen a picture of that ?
I'm also curious to know more about the copy of Osterkamp's plane that flew around in the UK...
Lot's of questions, I know.
I'd already be happy with just some bots and pieces from answers !
Thanks and best from Regulus
