Hello everybody,
I just read the latest brochure of Hermann Historica, the one for their 52nd auction coming up in May.
Among several interesting WWI items was a collection of photographs, documents, medals and badges of a certain Carl Czapek. The caption stated the collection to belong to a German "fighter ace".
However, I did not find an entry for him in
Above the Lines or
The Jasta Pilots. In addition, two partially visible photographs depict two men together (one photo is of a two-seater with the crew geared up) and another set of photographs separately depict both men of a two-man crew, one of whom is captioned "Czapek" (I can barely recognise the name). Obviously Hermann Historica has erred here, but I was wondering about this Czapek fellow: did he do anything special? Like shooting down an enemy plane or receive a high award from one of the German states? And who was his observer? I cannot make out the lettering of the observer´s name, but it is a short name - no more than 5-6 letters.
Kind regards,
Reinout
