Albatross J1 pilot photo

Some of you will remember this from another thread-His name is on the back of the photo and he looks pretty pleased as he goes out on his hundredth mission in what must have been a really dangerous part of flying...I think it looks like it says Ltn.Trjuisandlanger or something..if you got any info be glad to hear from you.

I think the name is

Can you send me a better scan of the backside of the picture.

Greeting

Checking my library (Casualties of the German Air Service by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven, published by Grub Street in 1999, ISBN 1-902304-33-0), I find a Ltn. d. R. Ernst Schwerdtfeger, observer of FA 252(A)w, killed 7 November 1918 at Soignes. Maybe it is him.

Hope this is help.

Best regards from Belgium

Philippe

Thanks to your both

Thanks Gents- I will put another scan up over the next couple of days-I have the Norman Franks book so I will check it out. I scoured it high and low but I obviously has the spelling all wrong.
Happy Flying Sean

I show Ltn.d.R. Ernst Schwerdtfeger joined FA 252(A)w on 23Jun17. He was WIA on 30Oct17. I do not know the date he returned, but he was there certainly in March 1918 where he remained until he was KIA. Poor guy, just two days before the war ended. Based on the cross markings the photo had to have been taken before mid-April 1918. June 17 - Apr18 certainly leaves sufficient time for him to have made 100 front flights. Sounds like a winner! R.

O´Connor listed him as winner of the Knights Cross 2nd Class with Swords of the Württemberg Friedrich Order (6 June 1918).

Name is spelled Ernst Schwertfeger by O´Connor.

another link reaps more rewards

I found this site www.idflieg.de which is easy to use and gave me the following info. on Ltn.Schwerdtfeger(sic)
Soignies(100) Is this the aerodrome number?
Then they have him with 252 as already stated with (150) in brackets.
After that is a listing of other units? under thwe heading, quellen (swell?)
as follows....
(100)verlustliste(150) S.315(144) S.326

This is a very good site for casualty listings, and they give a whole load of links. All help still more than welcome.
