I have recently acquired an old photo postcard that depicts a German pilot standing beside what appears to be an Albatross aircraft. *The photo is autographed. *The name looks like Fritz Jacobsen. *I determined this after examining the list of German aces contained in The Aerodrome website. *The pilot also wrote an additional notation that I can't decipher. *The notation contains numbers. *It may be unit designation, or a date. *There is a dog in the photo with the pilot. *The pilot appears to be wearing the Iron Cross, and a pilot's badge.

I would appreciate any help anyone could offer in verifying the identity of this pilot. *Thank you.

My guess is that the photo also has a 1929 date by the signature, is an Albatros D.V in plane finish except for a black and white diamond band around the fuselage, correct? Then, yes, it is Fritz Jacobsen. The photo was taken on the Italian Front while he was with Jasta 31. A great article by Dieter Gröschel about "Jack" Jacobsen appeared a few years ago in OTF. There are many copies of this photo floating around. I have one also.

To Alan B.,

Thanks for replying to my note, Alan B. I tried to post the photo previously, but the system told me it was too large to download. I will try again.

I tried and got the same error message. I'll try a different route.

To Cigogne,

Thanks very much for replying to my query re the German pilot in a photo. You are exactly correct in every detail concerning the photo. I was wondering if the notation below Jacobsen's signature was a date. I was suprised to learn that he lived until 1981. Wish I could have talked to him! I assume that the autograph is a facsimile?? I appreciate your reply.
