WWI Model Builder Newbie

Gents/Ladies,

I am new to this site and WWI bi-plane building and I am looking to try one. I was thinking of choosing the 1/48 Roden Fokker D. VII and wanted to know if there are other options besides the lozenge schemes for markings?

TIA

Brad

Welcome Brad-M! It just depends on what you want. Most of the birds from Jasta 18 will let you get away with red wings. At least on the top. Fear not the lozenge! A search here will undoubtedly render some great examples. Try a search here on the models section for Fokker D.VII. But it is your model, feel free to express thy self. Even if it hairlip's the stogiest blighter. Another grand source is our own Dan San Abbott member extrodinaire!!! Best of luck StephenLawson

Welcome Brad-M

Jasta 7 was known to have flown a number of all black Fokker D.VII's.

Welcome Brad! I don't want to rain on your parade but unless you are somewhat experienced at problem solving the Roden DVII may not be your best bet. Although rigging is almost non existent on the DVII,thus simplifying the build, Fit problems with the struts and wings do require a great deal of attention. See the thread on the Roden DVII ( The Build). The Roden SE5a, Nieuport 28, and the Eduard Nieuport 17,11 and Alabatros kits all are a far easier build. The rigging is more complicated but the fit is much better! So if you stick with the DVII we will be happy to advise, just thought I would give alternatives.
