My Gallery
Hi
I was doing some cleaning recently and found some very old work.
Thought it might be good for a laugh

The date on the back of the photo is April 9, 1985
The rendering capabilities were pretty limited back then.
No cast shadows
No maps
No material properties
And No way to export an image - we had to shoot a photo of the screen

and as you can see I hadn't figured out how to generate complex surfaces yet.

jeez I'm old
Mark

My Gallery
here's another
Photo isn't dated on the back but i figure it's from around 1987 or so
Remember the old F19 stealth fighter kit?
I think it was put out by testers.

background is two big cylinders
and I got the panel lines by turning on geometry after rendering.
I remember being pretty proud of this image

The early renders still look better than mine Mark.
Ah !! Nostalga.. it is a wonderful thing. We often refer to that era as the "Good old days"

The most popular home computer had rubber pads
Software came on floppies and only the mega rich could afford a harddrive.
Memory was in Kbits..not Gigbits
Top of the range computers had a massive 254 (if I remember correct) colours. (dont ask what they were ..I only had 16 colours)
Enlarge a font size and it looked like it was made of bricks
A mouse was something you set a trap for.
A fast modem was 2.4K and you logged onto black/white BBS's ..not coloured forums
No one had heard of Bill Gates....

Hmmm..wonder why we call them the "good old days" ??

Hi Mark,
It's not good for a laugh!
It shows you remember from whence you came!
A lot of experts do not and it makes them unapproachable.
Your work is superb. The hours you have spent in research for your renderings as well as your artistic ability shows in their quality
You have developed them into a valuable resource for anyone building a model (of any scale) of each subject.
My hats off to you, Sir.
Cheers!

PS Watch out for DonnyW! He is one fast study!

Don't I know it !
He is picking this stuff amazingly quickly B)

well ... thanks for the comments guys
I do think this work was pretty good considering the tools I had available.
I still have these design files in a box somewhere, only problem is they are on those big old reel to reel tapes.
maybe one day I will find the right hardware to restore it in a museum somewhere

It's kind of funny
On the CG forums you run into a lot of very young people who are doing some nice work.
I've been tempted on several occasions to use the old line:
"son, I've been doing this kind of thing since before you were born"
but I've been able to resist it so far
I figure i'd just come off like some old jerk

does make you feel old though
