Hi everyone,

Has anyone seen this photo of the Baron before? The reason why I ask is that I recognize the other photos that are present, so they were definitely published before.

regards

I have not seen this photo before, but its inclusion with all of the others, together with other photos previously offered by this seller, would make me highly doubtful that this is an original unpublished photo.

Dear Winged Warrior-

If I'm not mistaken, could this be from the series of photos taken of MvR by a triplane in a hangar or tent?

Some have MvR in flying helmet and big fur coat -- and Lothar is in some of the photos, too. They are on the starboard side of the Dr.1 fuselage by the cowling. I don't recall if MvR is sitting on the wheel like in this one. What's cool from this series is that both Manfred and Lothar are in incredibly-cool flight suits (fur and jumpsuit, respectively) -- but that the one showing Manfred solo ‘informed’ one of J.B. Deneen's drawings that was inserted in the "Von Richthofen Legend" four-print series.

I haven't seen this exact one before -- but I'm sure I've seen one or more from the same "photo shoot." Whether published or not, I suspect that this one is rather uncommon ... for now.

Best regards,

-George

Thank you cameldriver for your opinion on the picture. I too wonder if it is an unpuplished photo.

Thank you also aeropeasant for your insight. You jogged my memory regarding the place where this photo was probably taken. I have a nice shot of MvR wearing this same coat, complete with flying helmet and scarf. The backdrop does look like a hanger or tent. This could very well be from the same photo shoot.

regards

Sanke cards are each a print... not screened. So, in that sense, each Sanke card is an original. But, this photo has been published many times. It was taken in very late 1917 or early 1918 when JG.1 got it's triplanes.

This pic is printed in "Richthofen" by A.E.Ferko in a slightly cropped version. It is labelled with his name in white and a serial? number M.K.196. Two others with Manfred in his fur coat are also included.

Thank you Cigogne and Cliff for your help. With the way the bidding has gone up to this point, I sure hope that everything is on the level (not to say that the seller is doing anything unethical!). That just doesn't happen on Ebay

Regards
