Howdy Folks,
Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, but I just got back to the states. Does anyone have any solid info, (Pics, blurbs, links, etc.) on the paint schemes of the Spads used at ANY time by Sp.124? Any help would be much appreciated and eventually credited when I finally get my Web Sight up and running. Unfortunately, my 2-year-old son may be graduating Boot Camp by the time I finish. In Edw. Parson's writings he mentions the brief use of Nieuport 28s by the LE. All other considerations of the service history of the '28s always suggest it was never in use other than by the U.S.A.S. I've always thought this an interesting item.
EP said they were quite happy with them but suddenly they were recalled and the SVIIs re-appeared. Has anyone photos of the N-28 with the Indian Head?

Best, etc. Lee

The info book supplied with Americal/Gryphon's N./Spa.124 decal sheets list the following SPAD VIIs:
1) S.156 flown by Lufbery - three horizontal bars on fus. + Seminole head.
2) S.161 flown by de Meux - Seminole head.
3) S.387 flown by Soubiran - RS within diamond + Sioux head.
4) S.1436 flown by Thaw - T + Sioux head.
5) S.1615 flown by Willis - Sioux head on fus. & W on top wing.
6) S.1777 flown by Masson? - Sioux head + swastika.
7) ??? flown by Dolan - Sioux head + CH design.
8) ??? flown by Lovell - Sioux head + diagonal stripe.
9) ??? flown by Soubiran - Sioux head + S on diamond.
10) ??? flown by Marr - Sioux head + M.

The book Lafayette Escadrille Pilot Biographies by Dennis Gordon has pics of four of the above and I've seen a couple others in various books.

Hope this helps.

Unless you are stricly interested in the Lafayette SPADS, you'll also want to check C&C (US) V.19/4 winter 1978 for Bill Bailey's article covering SPA 124.
