Man o' man, I leave the country for a few months, come back and everything is new!! Hopefully everybody will get on board with the new format. Anyway, as to my question. I had originally posted it several months ago but then had to leave. Does anyone have any hard facts on the paint schemes and/or serial numbers of any Spad VII's of the Spa. 124? I have some old photocopies of an article from a 1967 New Jersey chapter of IPMS but it does not go into great detail. I have both of Dennis Gordon’s excellent books, but still need more info. Thanks in advance. Semper Fi---Nick Vitale USMC

Hi Nick,

Good to see you back again.

Surprisingly, the best reference I've come across on the camouflage and markings of the Lafayette Escadrille come from a set of decals published in 1991 by Americal/Gryphon (4373 Varsity Lane, Houston, TX 77004). *Set #65 in 1:72 and #66 and #67 in 1:48 scale include a short booklet with full descriptions of 22 Nieuports and 5 SPAD S.VII's that served with the LE. *A brief but complete text makes the set(s) valuable even without the decals.

Check with Americals as to their availability; if no longer available, I can copy the booklet for you.

Hope this helps. *VBR,

Ira

Nick

I found a listing of known serial numbers for the 103rd Aero in C&C(US) vol.19#4. It has a number labelled as 'at formation'. These as I understand it, were transferred from the Lafayette Escadrille along with the personnel.
The serials are: 3129, 3141, 3149, 3151, 3171, 3173, 3198,4259, 5301, 5302, 5308, 5820, 3148, and 3170.
Hope this helps.
