Hi,
I'm looking for information on the following French pilots :
1) Sergeant-Pilot Frantz and private-mechanic Guenault who shot down a Aviatik near Reims at Jonchery on the 5th October 1914 in plane V89 ?
What unit did they belong to ? Did they survive the war, have other victories ?
2) Lieutenant Boillot, KIA on the 20th May 1916. Where, by whom, what unit ?
3) Sous-Lieutenant Marchal who seems to have flown over Berlin on the 21st June 1916 and was taken prisoner after engine trouble and forced landing at Cholm in Poland. What unit did he belong to and did he escape emprisonment ?
4) Lieutenant Daucourt and Captain de Beauchamps who seem to have done or participated in a raid on Friedrichshafen in the night of the 23rd on the 24th (month and year not known but probably 1916 before the end of september) that was quite succesfull. When did this exactly happen, with what unit were they flying ?
Thanks for all the help in advance !
Best from Regulus

from memory (I'll try to give you more latter)
Frantz and Quenault were from the V24 and were flying a Voisin LA type 3
Joseph Frantz survive the war and died in 79 in paris
Frantz was a real aviation pioner (license number 363)
at 85 he was still flying
I do not know if they get more victory
about Marchal flight it must be nottice that it was the forst flight of over 1000km
Iwill try to give you more latter.

Regulus,
I have some information on the first two pilots (from the book "Les 'As' Francais de la Grande Guerre"... *D.Porret).
I have copied directly from the book (Part 1 of 2). Please forgive the lack of accents etc.
1. * * Joseph Frantz - Date of Birth: *"7 aout 1890 a Beaujeu (Rhone)". Date of death: 12 September 1979 in Paris.
Brevet : civil no. 363, le 1 fevrier 1911 (alors caporal du genie); militaire no. 170.
Louis Quenault:
"Date of Birth: 2 Octobre 1892, Paris 11c
Date of Death: 26 Avril 1958, Marseille (boulevard Oddo)
Il est inhum au cimetiere de Peyruis, petite commune du department de Haute-Provence."
I am too inexperienced in French to translate. I would appreciate it if someone more able to translate could post the translation here.
As it appears the other gentlemen were not aces (though neither apparently were these two), they do not appear in either volume.
Hope it helps.

Concerning the attacks on Düsseldorf (22 September 1914-but no results & 8th October 1914-shed + Zeppelin destroyed.) and Friedrichshafen (21st November 1914)
It's however so that only British aviators were involved!
Düsseldorf 8th October 1914 : Cpt. Spencer Grey,
Lt.Sippe, Lt. (?) Marix.Marix was the one who dropped the succesful bombs!
F'Hafen : Cdt. Briggs, Cdt. Bbington.Lt. Sippe.
Briggs was shot down and wounded, made POW.
Babington & Lt Sippe could return with heavily damaged planes!

Slt. Marchal:
Anselme Marchal born in Switserland from French parents 1882.12.23 at Moutier.
Aé.C.France pilots license n°328 and by outbreak of WWI he entered into the French Army (for more at Camp de Mailly)1915.12.21 he was proposed for getting the legion d'Honneur...(One of our most ancient pilots which rendered enormous services to our country into the most difficult circumstances and cool blooded model pilot. 200 hours of Flight...
What goes on his flight : 20th June 9.30h on a Nieuport he started from Nancy.
Monoplane, special equiped with extra fuel holders with in sight this planned flight....he had to drop over Germany over Berlin pamphlets !
On 21st June at 8.30 h he stranded at Cholm/Poland at 100 km from his goal, foreseen was he had to land behind the Russian frontlines!
The pamphlet was in fact telling the Berliners "that the French could have bombed the "open city of Berlin" killing innocent women and children but we content us just to drop you the following proclammation....."
Marchal was interned at Salerbach and could send a postcard with the details of his motorproblems .
Ignition candles who were defaulty...he landed and replaced two of them, he tried to start his motor he refused and deplored not to have exchanged both others at at the moment he was gone to do, he was made prisoner...at that moment he had flown already +/- 1.300km! And as told was only 100 km from his goal!
I haven't any idea what unit and if he could escape and return to France afterwards?
NANCY? perhaps someone knows the unit??
Jempie.
