I would appreciate if someone could direct me to a picture or decription of what this medal looks like. My g-grandfather born c1849 had an Iron Cross. I thought it might be from the Franco-Prussian War?

Thank you in advance!

Take a look at the 'Medals' box on the left side of this page.

Thanks Mark. I could not find the metal I am looking for. It might have been a merit metal???
It has a ribbon and no pin. It is round (gold color) 1870 1871 is in the middle of a wreath of leaves which is in the middle of the iron cross.
On the other side There is lettering around the rim and there is a W with a crown on top.

There is also another metal which does have a pin on the back. It is silver in color with a women in a long flowing robe/dress. the letter O G are on either side of her.

I would really appreciate any info. on these metals. Thanks again for getting back to me.

Hi,
the round gold color medal is perhaps the 1870-1871 medal gave for soldiers who fought during that war.
Hope it help
