I am looking for sources on information pertaining to Boelcke's batman, Ludwig Fischer. I seemed to have recalled reading somewhere that he was later a batman for Boelcke's brother Max and then stayed in touch with the Boelcke family after the war and how he visited frequently and regularly corresponded with them...as did Erwin Boehme. Am I right? Any takers on this?

Many Thanks to All...

A batman was a personal servant, sort of like having a butler.

Officers were alloted personal servants during WWI because being an officer was supposed to be synonimous with being a gentleman. The word 'batman' was derived from the French word for saddle-bag, 'batte' (or somat similar). The batman was the guy who looked after your gear and stowed it when you went on the road.

Not to be confused with the hero of Gotham City.

This all still doesn't answer the question I put forth...
Does anyone know anything?
