I have just acquired aphotograph of a Short S 538 used my a Major Woods for a shot at crossing the Atlantic around 1919/20 period does any one have any information on this. The photograph was probably taken at Leuchars or Turnhouse.

If his machine was named "The Shamrock" the only info I have is that it dropped out in 1919. There is a picture in The Hulton Getty Picture Collection book "Aviation" (ed.) Peter Almond, showing it at Eastchurch. Four men are shown swinging the prop together(!) and a huge under-slung fuel tank is fitted.

Thanks for that, cannot read a name but it does have a large underslug tank. john
