8th Aero Squadron
The Squadron arrived on the Front at Ourches on 31 July, 1918, and was assigned to the 4th Corps, Observation Group, 1st Army, on 14 August 1918. The Squadron was engaged in the operations in the Toul Sector, Chateau-Thierry, Saint Mihiel, and the Argonne-Meuse 1st and 2nd offecsives, terminating its work on 5 February 1919. It suffered twelve casualties, consisting of 4 killed and 8 prisoners.
The insignia for the 8th Aero Squadron was an American eagle, holding the American Liberty Bell, and its wings are spread out horizontally.
Does you friend have his father's small (approximately 1",or 1 1/2" wide) metal insignia pin, or badge, of the eagle holding the Liberty Bell?
