I have been reading "Ritter von Schleich" by Fried Lange, and came across some interesting data on Schleich. It states that he flew 496 patrols that included some 20,000km of total flight distance. It also states that he flew 150 hours over enemy territory, and was involved in 89 aerial engagements, claiming 42 kills with 35 confirmed.

Does anybody have info similar to this for other pilots of the war? I would be interested to know how other pilots compared to these statistics.

Thanks

Certainly interesting stats, mind you I think the flight distance looged might be stretching it a bit. I mean who would have logged flight distance ? The rest fair enough. I too would be interested to see if anyone knows of anyone else who logged flight distance.

BTW "The Black Knight" Edward Ritter Von Schleich is the Schleich we're talking about I take it ? He was certainly a great pilot and the book makes a great read. Although one of the lesser known Aces he certainly deserves more coverage than he gets.

cheers

Hi wingedwarrior,

There are existing some numbers for Adolf Ritter von Tutschek, the Kommandeur of JG 2. It is said that he had a total of 384 flights as a Jasta-Pilot. Of these 306 were fighter-patrols. He was involved in 52 aerial fights and achieved 29 victories.

Best, Immo

Hi Legendary Voss,

Hpt. Schleich did fly a captured Spad VII (probably fron SPA65) and is rumoured to have join up with a flight of French Spads and had to dive for safety after he was finally noticed by the French pilots. This occured probably sometime in August/September 1917 while he was serving as CO of Jasta 21.

Lt. Otto Kissenberth was the gentlemen who flew a catured Sopwith Camel and used it to shootdown an SE5a (60sq?) on May 16, 1918. He later was severly injured on May 29th in a crash flying the very same plane. He did not fly anymore war patrols that I am aware of.

Regards

Hello wingedwarrior!

Didnīt Kissenberth fly a Sopwith Camel during his last flight and the same one on the day of his last victory (an S.E.5a)?

I think that Windisch flew a partially black painted Spad VII for a while.

Who knows more?
