5/17 Compass

Something for which I’ve been searching for sometime has finally appeared; a nice Creagh-Osborne 5/17 compass.

Browsed the forum seeking info on ‘overhauling’ but finding nothing definite, leaves me wondering if anyone can anyone recommend a sealant for the front bowl cover and internal liquid? Any sources for a manual?

Jeff, liked your now locked thread. Anything new on your compass project?

Regards,
John

Hi John,

I sealed mine with an O Ring and silicone sealant.
For the liquid I used white spirit.
It has been three years with no leaks and no discolouration of the liquid.

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now.
John, if you do open the compass up to referbish it, please measure the inner parts for me. I would open my thread to update the interanal parts.

Hey Jeff, will do, although it’s about number 437 on the ‘to-do’ list.

Saw your note about what I’ve been up to and I will post some photos later but for now, the D VII and proof that it’s actually a bi-plane. You should be able to pick it out of the general disarray that I call my hangar.

Regards,
John
