OffzStv Münnichow
Morning Gents,
I am new to this group, however doing a Google search on the above name lead me here as there were two posts requesting info on this person.
I believe this to be Major August Wilhelm Heinrich Münnichow, born 4.2.1893 in Hahlen, died 22.3.1953 in Hamburg.
When he married Maria Zander on 4.11.1920 in Niendorf, he was addressed as ehemalige Offizier Stellvertreter the rank he was that Graeme posted in a thread below:
2nd-Lieut G G Newbury (Pow) & Lieut E M Chant (Pow), 16 Sqn, RE8 B5860 – took off 17:00/17:00 then missing on special mission Bapaume; OffzStv Münnichow, Js59, 3rd victory [Bapaume, no time] ?
I can not add much to his WW1 career but it was pleasing to find as it adds a little more to his overall career.
Dec. 44/Jan. 45 he was Gruppenkommandeur I/Jagdgeschwader 77, however at that time he was no longer flying and the only none flyer to hold that position.
He was awarded the Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz II Klasse on 24.12.1940. This being the 1939 Bar to the Iron Cross 2nd Class, indicating he was been awarded the 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class.
/Ian
