Today there are still enough wars, where a few monments of silence would give people a tiny bit of hope for the future...

148 killed Xmas day 1914 . Less than the other years , but not by a massive percentage . Brits and Indians attacking in Belgium , seaborne raid on Cuxhaven to list just a couple of actions. One British officer sketched the Bosch front line trenches during the truce for later reference for an attack. Humans are addicted to war, how else can we feed our addiction for greed and power? But I applaud the sentiment you posted with.

There are pessimism, realism, optimism and hope. Today is one of the days for hope. It happened once, so why can't it happen again...

It's important to remember the common humanity.

The propaganda feed will always talk about enemies with horns and tails but so many veterans' groups, across so many wars, have found that people are essentially the same the world over: in wartime those young veterans will have
lost friends; they've had worried parents, they had times when they thought it was over. The strategic-level failures at the political level leave young men (and, nowadays, women) in the firing line, but the sad thing is there are plenty of civilians who are comfortable with politicians grandstanding on various issues when ultimately it's the lives of those in uniform that's at stake.

The sad thing about war is that, only long after it is over, former enemies often meet and form friendships through shared experiences.

If only.....

Well before the Boss moves this to off topic ( which I’m too scared to venture there) , but the cessation of “war” would require
All religion to be abolished ( or only one agreed to , good luck with that)
Borders to be removed …which leads on to point 3
Nationalities removed , so your passport only sez “ citizen of earth “
Once “ tribalism “ is abolished then you have a chance , but to be honest .. I love tribalism . I’m from Irish convict stock who stole to eat during the famine , got caught and transported to van Diemens land … made a life .. and I’m happy to go to war with anyone who threatens that life … oh , but merry Xmas by the way

There is a very nice article in the Times which sheds some new light on the Christmas Truce, after 110 years. It seems that some Indian troops also took part in the activities, which apparently was generally unknown until recently.
