Fokker A.III 03.52 and Hautzmayer

In my desire to investigate the career of "Little Bull" Baracchini I found an event on 15 August 1916 where Voisins of the 26a Squadriglia were attacked by Fokkers and Albatros of the K.u.K. Luftfahrtruppen. In the battle one Albatros was severely damaged and two Fokker A.III also (both of which crashed, but the pilots survived).

Grosz claims "During combat on 15 August 1916, Fokker A.III 03.52 (ex E.I 65/15) collided with A.III 03.44, killing two pilots of Flik 19 and 28."

The Austrians apparently claimed a Voisin in reply. Adolf Heyrowsky, Fokker A.III 03.42 also of Flik 19 is the victor.

One of the Fokkers was "Snow Bird" 03.52 flown by the future ace Hautzmayer. In a modelling piece I read that 03.52 claimed seven victories, five by Hautzmayer. This not correct. Hautzmayer claimed just one in 03.52 according to O'Connor excellent LFT work.

Did Fokker A.III 03.52 claim seven victories and if so, apart from Hautzmayer, by whom? According to an old Forum post Stefan Huzjan, Flik 19, flying E.I 65/15, A.III 03.52, was given credit for a victory over a Voisin as his second victory but no date.

Fokker A.III 03.42 not 03.52 did proceed to become the one of the most successful Fokker in Austrian service with in all six victories:

Mathias Bernath of Flik 4 (two kills, one being an Italian Caproni Ca. 1 shared with Heinrich Kostrba in the Palmonova area at 8:45 AM on February 18, 1916)

Max Perini of Flik 19 (kills on May 1, 1916 and a Voisin on May 10, 1916)

Ludvig Hautzmayer of Flik 19 (a Caudron on August 9, 1916)

Heyrowsky (mentioned above) is the sixth.

I assume Hautzmeyer's seven victories are confused with his two Fokker claims. He also claimed flying the HB C-1 and the Albatros DIII. Or perhaps with the total claims of Flik 19. This by esteemed forumite Kirk Lowry.

Mathias Bernath, Flik 4, flying Fokker E.I 64/15 (German designation), Fokker A.III 03.51 (Austro-Hungarian designation) was given credit for a victory over a Maurice Farman on November 25, 1915 in the vicinity of San Lorenzo di Mossa.

best regards

Keith
