Aviator Log Book

Aviators Log.jpg

If I've attached this correctly, this is an image of my granduncle's logbook. Is this a genuine WW1 U.S. Army Air Service aviator log book or is it something produced later?

My granduncle was Orville P. Bonn of the 34th Aero Squadron, mostly stationed at Tours Aerodrome in France during the war. The family legend is that he was a World War I ace and was shot down but survived. That appears to be nonsense since he was an enlisted man - a corporal and then a sergeant in 1917 and 1918. He also earned an aviation mechanic rating.

The log book displayed here was found among his effects but is absent any content or writing, except for his signature on the title page.

Thanks for any insight. Steve

Log Book Page

Here's what the front page looks like. What do you think? My thought is this is not a WW1 logbook but rather something produced later by Dept of Commerce.
Thanks Steve

Nice logbook! My guess is it is from the 1920s. Below are some period log books from major combatants for comparison.

Not a WW1 log book

Yes, it looks like it was created between 1926 and 1934, based on the reference to Commerce Dept. Aeronautics Branch.

See my blog post about this:

Thanks!
