Balloon detachment in Wiaborg

Hi

Linked below is a picture of Russian troops stationed at Wiaborg fortress in Finland during 1916. Is anyone familiar with the troop symbols used?

As far as I know there was a balloon detachment at Wiaborg during that time but I donīt know if itīs presented in the picture.

Can anyone help?

If you look at the first symbol on the lower group you will see a representation that I believe is a representation of the Naval command (Шт.- Sht.) http://marksrussianmilitaryhistory.i...eviations.html this list might help you figure out the units but you will need to transliterate the Russian Cyrillic first...

Coincidentally the first ensign used for the balloon units (Учебный воздухоплавательный парк (УВП)- Aeronautical Training Park)

and then by the RIVVF (Российский Императорский Военно-Воздушный Флот - Rossiyskiy Imperatorskiy Voyenno-Vozdushnyy Flot - Russian Imperial Military Air Fleet) They used the naval fleet symbol in their ensign https://flot.com/history/interesting...ase_id=4999392

Thank you CjB for the links and other information.
What do you make of the seventh symbol top rpw? The one with orange square and a letter B in it. The flag symbol resembles the wings and ancher of the aeronautic flag IMO.

The equipment of the mentioned balloon detachment was left behind by the Russians when Finland became independent. The Finnish army formed a balloon company that was actice for just roughly a year. The balloons and other stuff left by Russians was in such a bad shape and the army had no money to get new ones so the unit was disbanded.

Very possible you are correct as the word balloon in Russian is Воздушный шар (Vozdushnyy shar)...
