Mercedes D.III valve train

I'm looking for a bit of info on the Mercedes D.III valve train.
When did they go from the side slot rocker arm design and over to the relocated rocker box design?

Did the engine change designation when fitted with them, or were they perhaps used exclusively on certain types of aircraft or on engines with the air pump fitted?

Reason I'm asking is that I build a lot of Eduard 1/48 kits, and they only come with the side slot rocker arm engine, and I would like to correct it on the ones that used the newer ones.

The Mercedes D3 is a design from 1914 . The real company name is F1466 . The D3 has the rocker arm sticking out from the housing and losing oil at the opening . After 1916 came the D3a with the rocker arm at the side from the housing , no oil leak any more . The complete cambox is interchangeable to both engines .

Thanks, so it changed with the D.IIIa model then.

Elvind, note that Daimler Mercedes development sequence was; D III, D IV, D IVa, D IIIa. The D IV was a D III with 2 cylinders added to make a straight 8 of >200 hp. It was a failure with terminal crankshaft issues therefore the straight 6 D IVa was developed. The D IIIa was a smaller displacement refinement of the D IVa.
BTW, D III was still in production March 1917 and used, for example in the Albatros D V. it was superseded by the D IIIa in the Albatros D Va in April of 1917.

Has anybody detailed information about the castellated nut at the end of the valves , late version .

This one, the collet nut on the end of the valve?

Are this your parts ? If yes , can you show a photo from the valve plate inside ? Is it a original part ?
