Bonjour mes amis
Johan Ryheul notes the following on page 134, within the chapter about KEK Vouziers, of KEKs AND FOKKERSTAFFELS -
"On 7 July Werner Lehmann was wounded in action. Surprisingly, the French Air Service made no claims that day, and Lehmann's injuries cannot have been serious. Four days later, two claims were made by the unit - a Caudron west of Vouziers by Lehmann, and a Nieuport west of Vouziers by Baldamus."
"The Caudron, 1392 from Escadrille C 64 was crewed by MdL Amaury de Saint-Pol and Gabriel Farigoul, who were both killed in action."
There would appear to be some conflict of data in this case. Do the comments refer to the same combat noted in this thread? Was the claim by Lehmann on 10 July or 11 July?
If we accept that Lehnamm was officially credited with three victories, Ryheul accounts for all, as follows
11/07/1916 - Caudron ("west of Vouziers")
26/07/1916 - Caudron 1527 ("near Beine-Nauroy, east of Reims")
07/09/1916 - Nieuport ("south-east of Reims between Fort de la Pompelle and
Cliquot Mühle")
Norman Franks relates in
SHARKS AMONG MINNOWs, on page 138, that "Lehmann was assigned to the new Jasta 9 which was to be formed on 28 September at Vouziers, taking men like Lehmann from the former Fokkerstaffel there - AOK 3. He became the embryo unit's first casualty as it was beginning to form with Albatros DIIs, being killed in a crash at the Army Flug-park at Somme-Py on the 23rd." The book includes a photo of Lehmann standing before an Eindecker. Franks indicates that Lehmann had served with FA32.
The upshot of all this is that it would seem that Lehmann was able to down MdL Amaury de Saint-Pol and Sol Gabriel Farigoul of C 64 who had been flying Caudron 1392 on 11 July and not Lt Henri Blanchon and S/Lt Plasse of C 51 on 10 July.
This confusing compilation used the above mentioned texts as sources and
THE FRENCH AIR SERVICE WAR CHRONOLOGY 1914-1918 by Bailey and Cony as well.
Salut!
