Compass Rings

After having gone thru this site, and not finding the sot after info, and a lot of time since my last attempt: Has anyone found or know of where to have a compass ring made? (the ring is the part inside ex: 5/17 compass, that has the cardinal markings and hash marks. Think Airpath type compass)
These rings are made in both inner and outer markings depending on the particular compass. The rings are the most vulnerable part and usually the first to go south. (haha pun intended). The whole carriage is delicate.
Where to find a source for the carriage and ring??????
After building an aeroplane, most of us can rebuild a compass (skip the nuclear part, taken into account) except for the: carriage and ring.
The 5/17 compass that is printed with an Airpath is a great idea. (you forgot to tell us how much you want for one of these) But if one has an original 5/17 how do you fix the innards. (forget about Keystone.)
Cheers,
Ed

5/17 Compass

It turns out that Jim Peters has 3D printed a version of the 5/17.
The compass body is printed and the "innards" comprise of an Airpath compass. A great start. It depends on the individual project as to worth and needed originality.
On my Bristol Fighter (20 years ago) I had machined the bracket mount and quickly mounted an Airpath type compass while trying to figure out how to fabricate the body (i.e. bowl). Peter Jackson bought the aeroplane before I got the far. Since that time God invented 3D printing. Isn't science wonderful?!?!?!

try jimpeters@tietco.com his pictures are somewhere on this site.

John Gaertner built a number of replica compasses. Look up Blue Swallow Aircraft and give him a call. Perhaps he can hook you up, especially if you have access to the CAD info.
