Karl Mauss

In the book Battleground Prussia: The Assault on Germany's Eastern Front 1944-45 by Prit Buttar has WW II General Karl Mauss back in WW I volunteering to become a fighter pilot but was injured in a crash in 1918 which ended his career in aviation. His name is not in frontflieger.de and the is no mention of him taking pilot training in his wiki bio. He did become a dentist in 1929. Any one know anything about him? Either Buttar got it wrong or he washed out as a pilot.
