Siemens Schuckert E.I

Hi,

On ebay is a photo of a Siemens Schuckert E.I here:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/325084370184...oAAOSwW29iJMg3

On the sellers photo is the text

Flugzeugführer Jagdflieger Leutnant Karl Hebart und 2 andere
Jagdflieger vor seinem Kampfeinsitzer Fokker E!!
Lt. Hebart flog Jagdschutz/Begleitschutz für die Großflieger-Abt. 501
im Raume Porubanek/Litauen 1917 im I.WK!!

I was surprised to read the above information (but that's probably just my lack of knowledge). Can anyone read the hand written text on the rear of the photo? Does it confirm that the machine was used by RFA 501?

TIA,

Wiking

Hello Again,

Further to my first post in this thread. I'm wondering if my question was reasonable/useful.Given that the writing on the rear of the photo is quite possibly illegible,is there any other evidence for a SSW E.I being operated by RFA 501 and is a Karl Hebart known to have flown with that unit?

TIA,

Wiking

Photo Karl Hebart

Hello Wiking,

This is what is written:

Porubanok, am 5. 1. 1917

Lieber Jannes,

Besten Gruss,

Dein Karl Hebart

Porubanok, January 5, 1917

Dear Jannes,

When I came back from vacation I found your W.V. letter. Many thanks for that. I'm glad you still thought of me.

However, the address was wrong. It is K (arl) H(ebart) Riesenflugzeugabteilung 501, 10th Army. Field Post Station 166.

This photo was taken at a combat squadron (Kampfstaffel ), where I was assigned in September with my combat single seater. The picture shows my machine and me with my 3 mechanics and 3 other fighter pilots.

Best regards,

Yours,

Karl Hebart.

Regards,

Jos

Jos,

Thank you so much. An unbelievable effort on your part. I'm so greatful.

However, unfortunately I'm still left wondering whether the Kampfstaffel he refers to is RFA 501 or whether that was the unit to which he was already assigned and the Kampfstaffel is one of the Kastas. It does rather sound as though it is a different unit from the context.Still your translation does as a minimum appear to answer my question in so far as we know that RFA 501 was Karl Hebart's parent unit.

Asa follow up question are any serial numbers known for the SSW E.I with RFA 501?

Best Regards,

Wiking
