Hello,

Its usually worth checking here for RFC aircraft:

http://www.airhistory.org.uk/rfc/aircraft.html

B.E.2c belonged to 4 Squadron and the details of how it was wrecked are as follows:

Ran into barbed wire in f/l La Boiselle after e/f on artly obs. 2Lt SW Williams Ok/2Lt FH McLennan Ok,

Regards,

This B.E.2c was from a batch of 100 numbered 2670 to 2769. Equipped with a 90hp R.A.F. engine, it was built by Ruston, Proctor & Co. Ltd. From this batch, 2735 and 2737 were transferred to the R.N.A.S.

This info from Bruce Robertson in "British Military Aircraft Serials 1911-1971", fourth revised edition, 1971.

Cheers,
Tony

The crew was 2nd Lieut Stanley Norman (not S W) Williams and 2nd Lieut Frederick James MacLennan; both were unhurt.

Ten days later, 25 October 1916, Williams and his observer, 2nd Lieut Geoffrey Richard Bolitho were shot down and killed in B.E.2c 2524 whilst performing artillery observation on the 2nd Corps front. They may have been brought down by Ltn d R Otto Höhne of Jasta 2 as his third victory.
