Fokker Aircraft of WWI Volume 3 Published

Today Aeronaut published Fokker Aircraft of WWI volume 3 | Early Biplane Fighters. Fokker became famous due to his Eindecker fighters; his early biplane fighters which followed were failures and brought Fokker to his lowest point. Because these fighters were not successful, information and photographs of them are not plentiful, and this book is an attempt to correct that. The story of these fighters is told here in 470 photos, 30 color profiles, and 6 scale drawings of the D.I–D.V production aircraft and the M.16 prototype in standard 1/48 scale in its 298 pages. Many of the photos have not been published before.

For now, unfortunately, the book is only listed in the US and the German Amazon, and not available for delivery to Finland
I got already volumes 1 and 2 but now something does not fit the box.
Regards,
Yavor

Thank You, Wiking!
Besides complexity of customs clearance, the UK Amazon reports :

Hi Jack,

I received my copy of Fokker Aircraft of WWI vol.3 today. What can I say. Well, thank you to Jörn and yourself would be a good start I suppose. So thank you.

It really is an excellent work and though I have,so far only had time to run through it quickly once, I'm very impressed by the photos and the new information contained in your book and I've already made many alterations to my own serials spread sheet as a consequence. No doubt I shall be making more. Volume 2 of Fokker Aircraft of WWI coauthored by Josef Scott and yourself was really impressive too and I'm very much looking forward to Fokker Aircraft volume 4.

Thanks,

Wiking

How much text is there? Or just a small introduction and photographs, sketches, colored silhouettes?

Hi Dwojkarz,

In format the Fokker Aircraft vol.3 is pretty standard for the Aeronaut volumes in this series. I, don't of course, no which ones you have already, but in terms of text it is more like the LVG aircraft books in that series than the higher text volumes on Junkers aircraft. However, the text for the photo captions is quite extensive. In terms of the aircraft covered my only points of comparison are Peter M Grosz's two works for Albatros publications (Windsock). I would say that in terms of volume of text,as text the number of words and the subjects covered are greater in the Aeronaut book. Where the Aeronaut book scores for me is the new photos and information in the captions, plus, Twenty years have passed since the publications of the Windsock volumes and while taking away absolutely nothing from Peter M Grosz's oustanding work on German aircraft, that is reflected in new material both in the captions and in additional material - eg seperate sections on the swiss Fokker D.II,the first 'D.VI' and more,

Regards,

Wiking

Hallo Wiking,

Thank you very much for the detailed information. So far I have been buying monographs of units, biographies, Jasta Colors, Guide to... (how to recognize something strange every flies - B-Planes and Navy Planes - great for me!). Also the volume on the development of German aviation with Frontbestands and other such information was ok for me. However, the mentioned volume about LVG... oh, I expected something completely different and hence my question. Because there I don't even have LVG C.V production series. And here I have to look for Grosz in Windsock. For me, the historical text is in the first place. Of course I know what the matter of the preserved sources looks like (or rather it doesn't...). But it is hoped that maybe something, maybe a miracle, and there will be a lot of strictly historical text. Please don't get me wrong - I'm not criticizing - I'm just looking for something else. Biographies, stories of aviation units, stories of the campaign, also interesting facts like the wonderful Jasta Colors or the classic history of Belgian aviation 1914 - 1918. And I am very pleased with that. And I buy it one by one.

Regards : )))

Hi,

Well I hope I don't misunderstand what you're looking for. But as with all books in this series there is a table with the Frontbestand. No unit histories per se,but I f a photo says for example this photos shows Fokker D.II of KEK 4b,then hopefully this would contribute to your knowledge of unit histories, but if as you say you're looking for something else, then fair enough. Certainly the book does not provide a seperate history of any of the units flying the early Fokker D types and as der Alte Fritz says 'jemand sol nach seiner Facon selig werden.Or each to his own.

Regards,

Wiking
