Today Aeronaut Books published
Jasta Colors Volume 1 by leading color authority Bruno Schmäling!
Since the end of WWI enthusiasts have been researching the colors of the German fighters. The late Alex Imrie was probably the best-known and most important of these, but there were many others who contributed to our knowledge. Bruno started his research into the fighter colors in 1974 and started working with Alex in 1976. Bruno's research builds on the foundation started by Alex -- and now Bruno shares the fruits of this research!
In Volume 1 in this new
Jasta Colors series Bruno describes his research methods and sources, tells the stories of his meetings with these pilots, and gives examples of his results. Many of the 55 fighters shown in profile have never been seen before, and many profiles are supported with color plan views. In addition to 223 photographs, the book has 61 documents with color information, 4 color contemporary color paintings, and detailed reference material in its 274 pages, even including lists of pilots interviewed in person by Alex and by Bruno.
Jasta Colors Volume 1 was published today and is now available to order.
For those looking for more on British aircraft, Colin Ower's book
British Aircraft of WWI: Volume 3 | Fairey Aircraft is now in the Amazon review cycle and should be published by tomorrow. Colin's book has 254 photos, 15 color profiles, and 7 scale drawings of Fairey Aircraft.
Finally, today Aeronaut published
Guide to German Seaplanes of WWI. This title is available now and it aimed at readers who want a one-stop summary of German seaplanes. Every type of WWI German seaplane is illustrated, most with 2-4 photos, to help readers quickly identify those little-known airplanes when they see them. There are no color profiles or scale drawings here; these are published in the regular books in the series. This book has 391 photos in its 190 pages; cost was deliberately minimized by omission of color.
For readers keeping track at home, series numbers 52–56 have been reserved for the books Fokker Aircraft V2–6. Fairey aircraft is #57 in the series and the guide to seaplanes is #58. Number 59 will be a guide to German B-types to the same format as the seaplane guide; all B-types are included but for color profiles or drawings you must see the regular books in the series. No other guides are planned at this time but could be written if there is a demand.
Merry Christmas and All the Best,
