Etched Plaques
Does anyone have a source for reverse etched plaques? I have tried different manufacturers around the US, but they are mostly into mass production.
Or, they want to laser, which amounts to looking like a rubber stamp-label maker.
I finally found a good photo of the Bristol data plate from the '30s. THANK YOU Finland! (The Finnish Aero Museum-always great work and help!).
Cheers,
Ed

Ed: If you want to do it in brass, it's pretty easy to do at home. Lots of videos on how to do it out there.

I just did one for the Nieuport. I’ll do mask for you if you send me the image. Iron the mask onto a piece of brass, put it in PC board etch solution for a half hour, rinse. Paint it black and sand down to the design.

Hey Bill,
I'd like to try this sometime. What is the mask made from?

The mask is printed with a laser printer or photocopier (not an ink jet printer). The print is laid onto the brass and ironed down. The heat transfers the toner from the print to the brass. The toner is now the mask that keeps those areas from dissolving with the etch solution.
I'm no expert at this, but a little work can produce pleasing results. I do however have lots of experience with the software for making the files for printing, and would be happy to do that work for Bulldogbuilder. If he didn't live on the other side of the continent, I'd be in his way all the time.
