Question ABOUT ROTE KAMPFFLIEGER 1ST EDITION

Hello all, I have a question regarding the 1917 edition of the Rote Kampfflieger.
How many versions or printing dates there are. I have read that there was a printing with no photos, and another one with photos.

I believe the following version was the very first printing. It has photos

But then there are these versions of 1917 as well. This one has written 301 350 Tausend

This one has 401 450 Tausend

and finally this one 476 500 Tausend but with 1918 date

Could some one please explain these differences, and tell me which one was the very first original print of the book?

Thanks in advance

George

Mate,
The Red Battle Flyer (the Rote Kampfflieger) has a version 1 (with Pictures), a version 2 (with no pictures) and a set that begins with Nr. 0-500 and finally a proof book with a hard cover rather than a soft cover.

There is an American version that is written in German about 2" larger (height and Length) with no pictures.

And then there is the 1933 Versions

The #-# tausend is, I believe, indicative of the printing numbers. Therefore, lower numbers = earlier printing. The 301-350 tausend is printed copies number 301,000 - 350,000.

There have literally been dozens of printings of Der Rote Kampfflieger, but the Ulstein 1917 without any indication of numbers in "tausend" is likely the first printing.

151. - 200. Tausend

Hello George,

I don't know how the printings differ, but my copy is from 1917 (151. - 200. Tausend, soft cover).
It has 11 photo's, but I don't know if the pictures are the same in other volumes.

For instance, here is a picture of a congratulation message from the Kaiser for von Richthofens 50th victory. Is this picture also present in other volumes?

Regards,

Jos

Hello Jos, thanks.

The version that I have is 1917 version without the #-# Tausend.

It has the photo of the telegram on page 160

Thanks,

George

Thank you Dan and Tom.

So I reckon that the versions with the serial numbers are posterior to the version without it. It makes sense because the 476 - 500 Tausend is dated 1918.

Thanks again,

George
