Question Repairing aircraft engines after accidents…

.
My question is, if aircraft engines had to be rebuilt after flipping over and other bad landings, especially when the turning propeller hit the ground or when the nose of the aircraft hit the ground.

Both kinds of accident would have resulted in considerable stress or force on the crankshaft and metallurgy was not as sophisticated as it is today.

Thanks in advance for your help…

G'day Volker.
It is my opinion that the engine would have had to be completely stripped down to assess any & all damage to the engine & components.
It may have been necessary to send back to the factory for X rays for stress fractures if that operation would have been available back then.

A gentle "nose over" on landing would probably just needed a check over by the engine mechanic at the Aerodrome.
