I do not ever recall seeing anything which lists the loss of men and machines in the US Forces in 1914-1918. Is that avaiable?

Leo
Trevor Henshaw in his excellent book The Sky Their Battlefield TSTB from 1995 have about 20 pages with American losses during the War diveded into 4 parts.
A: LÉscadrille Lafayette 1916.1917
B: US Air Service Aero squadrons 1918
C: Americans known to have been casaulties whilst serving with the French Air Service in 1918.
D: Americans known to have been casaulties whilst serving with the French Air service in 1917-1918.
The American losses serving in british units is mentioned within this separet part(including 17 and 148 A sq).
One loosing part is that Trevor seldom have the serial number(S/N) of their aircraft. The reason for that is mysterius...

Dear Leo,
this is my list of U.S. airmen died in front units on Italian front during WWI.

- September 16, 1918. Ensign Louis Berger and Leutnant Thomas Murphy. They died in the crash of their Macchi M8 seaplane during a training flight. Their unit was U.S. Naval Air Station of Porto Corsini (near Ravenna) former 263 Squadriglia of Italian Navy.

- October 27, 1918. Leutnant Coleman De Witt Jr. and James L. Bahl Jr. They were the pilots of 6 Squadriglia's Caproni bomber serial 11669 shot down by AH fighters. The other two Italian members of the crew died too. De Witt received the Medaglia d'Oro al Valor Militare (Gold Medal for Military Valour), the highest Italian award.

- Another american pilot, Leutnant Clarence M. Young, was taken prisoner with his Italian mates when their Caproni of 2 Squadriglia crash landed behind the AH lines on June 6, 1918.

I hope that this will be useful for you.
I hope to hear you soon

Gunnar and Paolo:

Thank you for the information. Gunnar, I will try to locate the book you suggested.

Paolo, Thank you very much for the info on American Flyers on the Italian Front. There is never much on the Forum or elsewhere about that theater of operations.

Greetings Leo: Frank Olnyk compiled a list for all American pillots in WWI. He had a thread several pages back, and he sent me an order form for the list. It is about 200 pages long, but it does not list the serioal nnumbers of our pllanes downed, etc. He documents the loss by GO or CR. THe Research people at Maxwell Field also, under Dr Daniel Haulman, compiled a confirmation list. Luck and regards from Billy H/11/17/99.
