Marinefliegerstation Putzig 1911–1920 Published

Recently I indicated to a few readers that Aeronaut Books had a couple of surprise books in work. You may have been expecting another book on German aircraft like the Otto-Ago book we published yesterday, but here is the first of the surprise topics.

Marinefliegerstation Putzig 1911–1920 is the story of the naval air station at Putzig, now Puck in Poland, from its beginning as a new German naval air station for the primitive seaplanes of the time through WWI to its transfer to the new Polish nation after the war. The story is illustrated with rare period photos, maps, postcards, and color profiles of the assigned seaplanes and is completed with a few photographs of Puck today. The book has 155 photos, maps, 18 color profiles of the German and Polish seaplanes assigned to the station, and 118 pages.

The author, Andrzej Artur Olejko, is a noted Polish historian and professor specializing in military and aviation history. He is the author of many books, the most recent in English being The Habsburg’s Wings 1914. He is planning to continue this series of books about the A/H air service and bring more light to this little-known topic.

The impressive cover painting for this book was done by Taras Shtyk, who does the box art for the Roden model company in the Ukraine. We are planning some additional cover paintings from him next year.

A couple of other books are in work that are closer to our established pattern and hopefully you will enjoy them.

All the best,
Jack

Interesting theme indeed , at least for me.

Putzig was the home of German Marine aviation, similar to Johannisthal for the Army flyers. The place were it all started. The nearby Kaiser Werft took a good part in the development.
Unfortunate (for the Germans) they lost the territory after the War, but on the other hand the Polish could built up an own Marine aviation service from the remains..

I have lists of roughly 440 flyers who served or were educated there pre- and during the War.

I hope that the coming book can describe how important Putzig really was for the German Marine aviation.
