Arrow 100 years ago: the Junkers F-13

.
100 years ago the famous Junkers F-13 started for the first time. It was the first purpose-built modern passenger aircraft and therefore this small machine is the ancestor of such machines as the Concorde, the Boeing 747 and the Airbus 380. The original design was so good that the type was produced until 1932 (in a time when aircraft became outdated within a few years).

Hi!
The F.13 was really one of the pioneer in civil transport.
One of the few operated by our Company "Transadriatica", they made regular flight from Venice to Wien.
Cheers!

Neither did I, unfortunately!

What I don't quite understand is why the reconstruction aircraft somehow looks so different from the historic pictures, or the preserved original at Munich.

I'm aware that there were a lot of variants of the F13 historically, including some that featured the radial engine, and some details, like the landing gear and the vertical tail, seem to stem from late-production variants. If I managed to understand the gist of a long, complex, and partially controversial discussion on a German forum correctly, it seem that the fuselage is more like an early-production fuselage, though.

It seems no "official" drawings of the reconstruction aircraft exist though, so a lot of the discussion was a bit subjective. From the methodical approach and dedication to detail pointed out in the video you linked, I would be very suprised if the Rimowa F13 were a "fantasy" version, as some people over on the German forum implied!

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)
