Some corresponding...

.
... bits of information:

The letter was stamped "13.2.15" (13. February 1915). The photo must be older. The soldiers are not wearing winter clothes and so my guess is that the photo was shot in autumn 1914, since the machine already is marked with an early type of German national marking ("iron cross").

Another interesting detail is is, that none of the men is wearing any decoration (pilot/observer badge, Iron Cross, etc.).

Maybe this helps in connection with identiying the "bird"...

.

I,ll have to agree with Pedro, it does look like a Rumpler 3 , it has that style of exhaust used for that period.

I have another print of the same picture and as usual I scan these and identify them (if I can) and then publish them on Flickr.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/varese2002/43238850490/

As the text states I was busy but finally found a very distinctive item. Only DFW-built Taube monoplanes had the unique ventral radiator (see: Windsock Datafile #104 - Peter M. Grosz. The Taube at war. Page 4)

Another question : I have two designations for the DFW Taube :

DFW Stahltaube (licence Jeannin) and DFW/Lübeck Travemünde Taube : the last one has the under-nose radiator as mentioned by Kees .

What is the relationship between those Taube ?

Thanks

Richard

Lübeck-Travemünde or in full Flugzeugwerft Lübeck-Travemünde GmbH was founded on 8 June 1914 (as recorded in the Handelsregister). It was part of Deutschen Flugzeugwerke GmbH Leipzig (D.F.W.) aimed at delivering Hydroplanes / Wasserflugzeuge for the Reichs-Marine-Amt.

This information originates from the impressive book by Bodo Dirschauer (1995). Lübecker Luftfahrtgeschichte : Der Flugzeugbau auf dem Priwall und in Lübeck von 1914 bis 1934. ISBN 3-9801506-1-5

There is no mention in the book that a D.F.W. Taube was the ever built by the firm, which given the task of Lübeck-Travemünde to built hydroplanes is quite understandable.

Can you give the source of the data which states that Lübeck-Travemünde has built D.F.W. Taubes ?

Regarding the name 'Stahltaube' this was IMO not reserved for Jeannin, neither have I ever seen a mention that the D.F.W. (Stahl)Taube was licence built from Jeannin.

Looking in the Lange picture collection. This is the only picture available to Lange of the D.F.W. Stahltaue with ventral radiator
