McCuddens' rank

Hello. Just a question. Would James McCudden have been able to keep his rank if he had survived WW1 and chosen to stay in the RAF? For that matter, would he have even been able to keep his commission, since he was an enlisted man who had been promoted due to the needs of war? I think a 23 year old Major would be difficult to fit into a peacetime military. Just wondering.
