Talking Identification of aircraft

Mates,
I need just a little assistance on this one. I believe that Ltn. Krefft, Ltn. Wolff, and Rittm Richthofen were flying in an Albatros C-111?

Any help would be appreciated. and tks in advance

Hi Tom,
While MvR was occasionally flown around in an Albatros C.III, on this occasion it was a Rumpler C.I, serial C.4516/15. If you have Ferko's book on Richthofen, check out page 48. And yes, MvR and Wolff both squeezed into the back cockpit while Krefft flew the plane.
Best regards,
Greg

Arrow My guess...

.
... would be that the photo was taken between 06.04.1917 (I) and 06.07.1917 (II).

(I)
On the photo you can clearly see the shoulder insignia of a Hauptmann/Rittmeister (two "stars" and a button).

(II)
On this day Manfred von Richthofen was wounded in combat (a head wound) and it seems that it changed his personality and made him a more earnest person. I admit that the latter date indeed is not more than an educated guess...

Here's a photo taken from the other side.

Ferko suggested that this was taken during a visit to the Fokker Werke at Schwerin-Goerries, since there is a very well-known photo of Krefft,Fokker, Wolff and MvR taken there. I'm sure somebody probably has some records that would indicate exactly when this was taken, but I can't help you.
