Leutnant Otto Brauneck Jasta 25 and 11

Brauneck joined the air service and was posted to FFA 69 in Macedonia. He scored first in September 1916. His second victory, over an observation balloon on 14 December, earned him the Iron Cross First Class. After an unconfirmed victory on Christmas Day, he shot down two balloons on 5 January 1917] He then transferred to Jagdstaffel 25 on 14 January 1917. On 19 January, he received the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern.[1] Between 19 January and 6 April 1917, he claimed seven triumphs, only three of which were confirmed.

On 20 April 1917, he moved to Jasta 11 on the Western Front, to serve under Manfred von Richthofen. He scored twice in early June. On 22 July 1917, he shot down a 10 Naval Squadron Sopwith Triplane, probably Canadian seven-victory ace Flight Lieutenant John Albert Page. On 26 July 1917, Brauneck fell to the guns of 70 Squadron's Captain Noel Webb

The Silver Cup commemorates a victory on January 19th 1917, A Caudron G.4.

Regards

Richard

Great pictures - his family still exists!

Since 2017 (or 2018) Brauneck's grave in Sulzbach/Saar has a stone again - I will add a picture of this in the future at: Otto Brauneck.

Yes indeed it is, a lucky and accidental find. I normally collect Great War medals so this was off theme but delighted to have it.

What is the provenance on the Becher? This sort of thing has been heavily faked in recent years. What sort of hallmarks are on it? If possible, can you post close-ups of the Pilot Badge and engraving?

Yep aware that there are a plethora of fakes normally to more well known recipients and commemorating victories that may be considered more noteworthy than a victory in Macedonia to an unknown opponent. I am happy that it is a period piece.

Here a photo of Brauneck from unit FFA 69 Macedonia.
Photo was a part of the photoalbum of Robert Strey. He was member of FFA 69 and Jasta 25 at the same time.
