Howard Bradshaw - Canadian Ace?

Hello,
I came across an article regarding Howard A. Bradshaw who was stated as being a Canadian Ace. The article was dated Sept 9 1918 but I am not sure of his action. It stated he was forced down, badly injured, after bringing down 2 Germans and damaging 2 others. It also stated he had been listed as an Ace in July. Any other information on Bradshaw would be appreciated: Was he an ace? I can't find confirmation of that. Did his injuries end his military career? (KIA?). If not, what happened to Bradshaw? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Howard A. Bradshaw does not appear as a fighter 'ace' in 'Above the Trenches'.

He is not listed in 'Airmen Died in the Great War 1914-1918'

He does not appear in the name indexes of 'The Sky Their Battlefield II'

Sorry to be of little help.

Flight Cadet H W Bradshaw was granted a temporary commission as a Second Lieutenant on 27 June 1918 and was posted to the Unemployed List 20 May 1919.

I have no record of him claiming any victories nor becoming a casualty.

Doug,

Howard Allen Bradshaw has 2, possibly 3, RAF service records available online
from the National Archives, at Kew. The records are cataloged as:
(1) Howard Allen Bradshaw 1 August 1889 AIR 76/51/162
(2) Howard Allen Bradshaw AIR 79/1379/153469
(3) H.A. Bradshaw AIR 76/51/163

Bradshaw does not appear in any Canadian birth registration indices
or census returns, but a "Howard A. Bradshaw" does appear in
the United States Census for 1900, 1910 and 1920. The census
returns state that he was born in August, 1889 in New York, and
his residence in 1900, 1910 and 1920 was Schenectady, New York.
The census information parallels the 1 August 1889 birthdate given
in his service records. He attested as a Flight Cadet in 1917, and
he was promoted from Flight Cadet to a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant
dated 6 June 1918 (announced in the London Gazette, 6 August
1918, p. 9269) where he is listed as "Howard Allen Bradshaw." I
concur with Graeme and Mike in not finding any confirmation for
aerial victories or sustaining wounds during his active service. He
was transferred to the Unemployed List dated 20 May 1919, listed
as "2nd Lt. H.A. Bradshaw" (London Gazette 20 May 1919, p. 6251).
His residence in Schenectady, in 1920, attests both to his
surviving the war and to his American nationality.
