"Hi,
There was a series of wonderful cartoon/sketch postcards printed in Germany around 1916-17, which portrayed the various "types" to be found in German aviation. The signature reads only "Ritscher" or "Flieger Ritscher". I don't know who he was, but he was a marvelously observant artist who knew his subjects well. His sketches range from very realistic to humorous caricatures. I don't own any of these personally, I just found these images on German ebay.
The 'overland flight" or cross-country flight. During these training flights, crews often managed to have a 'forced' landing near some promising estate or farm where they might pick up some welcome additions to their mess supply.
