Hi Jamie,

I can't identify the wreck but the German translated is:

Dear Parents, attached (on reverse?) a photograph of a shot down English aeroplane. The high brigade staff, which I now again for some time belong to, is just inspecting the wreckage. Otherwise no news. With the best regards
your Edi(?)
Please write to old address.

Hope that helps, cheers,

Geoff

Arrow On the...

.
... "photo side" there are two remarks:

"Meine Wenigkeit" (my humble self) on the left
and
"General v. ???" on the right

So in this case the writer is also on the picture/photo.

Maybe this old movie will be helpful in connection with the identification of the aircraft:

It looks very much like FE.2d A32 of 25 Squadron lost on 28 May 1917.

If FE2d A32 from 25 Squadron that was lost on 28 May 1917 is the aircraft
in the photograph, the aircrew was:
Pilot--2nd Lieutenant Edward Henry Stevens, a 22-year old from Bristol who
served with the 3rd Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment prior to his
service with the Royal Flying Corps. With the R.F.C., he served with 4 Squadron
as an observer in 1916, from 16 April to 20 October, and as a pilot with 25
Squadron in 1917, from 19 May to 28 May. Serving only for 9 days with 25
Squadron, he was wounded and taken prisoner on 28 May and died of his
wounds on 16 June 1917.
Observer--Private (Acting Lance Corporal) Charles N. Sturrock, service number
1888, served with the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) Regiment prior to his
service as an observer and aerial gunner with the Royal Flying Corps. Taken
prisoner on 28 May 1917, Lnc. Cpl. Sturrock survived the war.
Stevens and Sturrock were brought down by Leutnant Kurt Schneider, of
Jasta 5, A32 being his 15th and final victory. As Graeme says in "100 Years
Ago Today" for 28 May 1917, Stevens and Sturrock were on a reconnaissance
mission over Douai-St.Armand-Orches when Schneider brought them down,
at Montigny, between 12:50 and 13:50 hours. Schneider was wounded in
action eight days later, on 5 June, and died of his wounds on 14 July 1917,
two months before his 30th birthday.

Jamie's photo may not be FE2d A32, as John McKenzie indicates, but the
caption for the photo in John's thumbnail is in error, as Voss brought down
FE2d A6378 with DeSelincourt and Cotton rather than A32 with Stevens
and Sturrock.

Not my own "personnal" research ...( Machine serial #'s are not in my particular interest ) .
About A32 ,..I reported only the caption at the Cross & Cockade book ( p 150 ) .

.............................................

This book also includes ( p 170) about . A 6378 :- 25 Sqn & LIA on recce 28-5-'17 .
Capt A de Selincourt , Lt H Cotton POW wounded - possibly shot down by Ltn. K Schneider , Jasta 5 .

Maybe it is obsolete or incorrect data ,... I cannot say .

However , I would defer to Tom Crean , ( tcrean 7828 ) , Author & Historian ,...on matters of Voss victories.
