A great day at Aerodrome Les Noyers

It has been a great couple of days here at Russ' place here in Ohio. This is the replacement event for Marv Storey's Gathering of Eagles. Marv had a good run of 23 years.

Agreed. Everyone was very welcoming to this newcomer. I am looking forward to seeing many folks again at the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous in Sept.

Most of my photos didn't turn out so well (Turns out the Motorola G6 has a horrible camera), but here's a clip of one of the fly-bys:

I didn't realize they'd stopped doing the event at Gardner. I went there twice, and enjoyed it both times.

The EAA stopped sponsoring it this year if I understand correctly.

I didn't realize the EAA sponsored the Gathering of Eagles in Gardner, but that doesn't mean that the EAA didn't do so. I was a humbled spectator at the event both times I attended. I got to sit in one of the Baselee D.VIIs and realize I'm too fat for their products (not their fault). I got to see amazing planes up close and in flight. It was an event without pretension, where I felt welcomed. I'm sorry if it is gone forever.

Now, if I could just lose about 80 lbs, that Baslee full-scale D.VIII...

Robert will (and has done so!) "customize" kits. In particular he has widened an 80% D-VII so the cowl fully covers the valve covers on a VW-Redrive combo... that's around 28.5". Talk to him, he can accomodate you. Also, the full-scale Nieuports, Camel, Pup, and Baby/Tabloid would all probably work nicely. The Camel and Pup you are really close to the CG, so weight is less of an issue. I think even a full-scale SE5a is a bit narrow, but I bet he could widen that as well.

Now, if you are like me, (sounds like it) you have a preference for Central Powers aircraft. A "Fat Fokker" (D-VII as mentioned above) may be just the ticket. Yes, it does impact the appearance just a skosh... but how accurate do you want to be?

I think he should do a full-scale Hanriot HD.1... that would be a neat project!

He's working with Russ on a full-scale Nieuport 10, as I am sure you have seen on here.

Can we get a list of the planes and the pilots?

I did a bit of sussing out and Russ' place is almost exactly the same distance from me as Gardner....so maybe in a year or so I might take Babette up that way.

She might get jealous, though, as I walk up and gently run my hands down the other aircraft...
